So many of us want to have greater faith, but we sabotage ourselves because we avoid facing our fears and pressing through. The reality is that faith is developed by pressing through your fears despite your feelings.

It’s been said that in order to experience growth and success we need to act our way into feelings rather than feel our way into acting. This is so true! If I only act when I feel comfortable, I would rarely move forward in my life. The reason that I’m able to do what I do today is because I acted despite my feelings of the moment.

When I was in college, I was terrified of my first speech class. We had three speeches to give during the semester. The first one was scary. The second was better. I nailed the third one with confidence. If I didn’t push through the emotions of the first and second speeches, I wouldn’t have succeeded on my final speech the way I did. The same is true with all areas of our lives.

Maybe you are facing a major life decision that terrifies you. Don’t let the fear hold you back. Instead, trust God to empower you through the Holy Spirit to move forward. Trust Him to provide for the vision He’s given you. It’s so easy to fear what is on the other side of the step of faith you need to take. But we need to remember that fear doesn’t come from our loving heavenly Father, but rather from the enemy of our souls — Satan.

It says in 1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” Right before this statement 1 John 4:16b says “God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” Therefore, God is the one who drives out fear. The enemy of our souls is behind our fears. He wants to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came to give us a full, rich, satisfying, abundant life. (see John 10:10)

Whatever fears you may be facing, ask God to overcome them with faith. Ask Him to fill you with His Spirit so that you are empowered and equipped to press through the emotions of the moment. God has GREAT plans for you. He loves you more than you could ever imagine. He will provide for you even when you don’t see how. Decide today to face your fears and strengthen your faith.

Make today GREAT!
